The 2024 NFL season has not gone according to plan for the San Francisco 49ers.
They entered the year as Super Bowl favorites, but injuries and suboptimal play have brought them to an unfamiliar place.
Brock Purdy led the 49ers to the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, including bringing them to the Super Bowl last year.
It wasn’t in the cards for them this season, and they’ll look towards the 2025 campaign to try and reload and try again.
One of their biggest blows has been to their offensive line, as Trent Wiliams, the heart and soul of this offense, has dealt with injuries all year.
Ian Rapoport recently reported that the team has officially placed him on IR and signed Matt Hennessy to a two-year deal.

Hennessy might play the same position as Williams, but there have been fewer offensive linemen in the league to perform as well as Williams has over the past several seasons.
His presence has and will be missed on the 49ers’ line while he is away, but Hennessy will do his best to try and fill in for the veteran star.
The 49ers have several roster decisions to mull over in the offseason, their most pressing being what they want to do with Purdy.
Purdy is seeking a massive contract extension given that he’s on his rookie deal, but it’s unclear what the 49ers are willing to offer him.
The bigger the contract, the fewer players they’re able to sign, so this decision won’t be made lightly, especially seeing their offensive line woes.
