Doug Pederson Was Speechless About Reporter’s Mac Jones Question

In a span of a few short years, Mac Jones has gone from being considered a potential franchise quarterback to a mere placeholder on one of the NFL’s worst teams.

After he failed to duplicate his Pro Bowl rookie season, the New England Patriots traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, and his production has only gotten worse.

In seven games (four starts) this year, he has thrown for just 1,026 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson recently was asked by a reporter what Jones needs to do to improve, and Pederson was literally speechless as he was unable to come up with a response, via The Coachspeak Index.

While at Alabama, Jones had an outstanding 2020 season by throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns with a 77.4 percent pass completion rate and a 203.1 passer rating.

He led the Crimson Tide to a win in the College Football Playoff National Championship game against Ohio State, as Jones had five touchdown passes in that contest.

After he was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, he led the Patriots to a playoff appearance and looked to be a worthy heir apparent to Tom Brady.

But it has now become clear that Jones’ strong play a few years ago was nothing more than fool’s gold.

He took over for the Jaguars this season only after Trevor Lawrence suffered a shoulder injury in Week 9 and a concussion in Week 13.
