The Chicago Bears are currently 4-5 and riding a three-game losing streak.

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has looked anything but his Heisman Trophy self.

Through his first nine NFL games, he has posted a total QBR of 38.4.

The Bears also just decided to fire offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

Former Pro Bowl offensive lineman and Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth believes the Bears should have gotten a veteran quarterback to help ease Williams into life in the NFL.

“The fact that you don’t have a veteran quarterback on your roster, somebody to mentor the young guy…It’s interesting,” Schlereth frustratingly said Wednesday on Breakfast Ball.

When they first entered the league, many of the league’s great quarterbacks had somebody to learn from.

Aaron Rodgers studied under Brett Favre for three years, Patrick Mahomes sat behind a true pro in Alex Smith, and even Tom Brady sat behind Drew Bledsoe.

Sometimes, the best way to learn is to sit and watch.

Chicago felt it best to throw Williams into the fire and see how he would respond.

So far, it has not looked great.

He has lost his confidence, the offensive coordinator has lost his job, and the head coach is possibly on the hot seat, too.

Perhaps things could have been different if the Bears had signed a veteran signal-caller.

They didn’t need to sign a legendary player, but Gardner Minshew, Jacoby Brissett, and Jimmy Garoppolo were all available last offseason.

Chicago went in a different direction and is now seemingly paying the price.
