It’s an afternoon of memories and art with The Locher Room on Friday, November 22, at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT, as host Alan Locher welcomes a veteran of General Hospital — actress, author and artist Ami Dolenz, who played Melissa McKee on the ABC soap from 1987-1989.
Memory Lane
In Port Charles, Melissa was the teenage daughter of Martha, a paraplegic. The two, along with Melissa’s brother Skeeter, moved into the brownstone after Martha and Bobbie became friends. Melissa and her brother became the foster kids of Bobbie and her then-husband Jake when Martha became ill. Melissa got into trouble a lot. In one storyline, Bobbie went undercover as a call girl and was arrested. When the story made headlines, the kids were taken away from Bobbie.
Dolenz, daughter of The Monkees legend Micky Dolenz, forged her own unique path in Hollywood. From her breakthrough on Junior Star Search to roles in GH, Growing Pains and Saved by the Bell, she quickly became a fixture of ’80s and ’90s television. She also starred in fan-favorite films like Can’t Buy Me Love — with future McDreamy of Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey, She’s Out of Control — with future Friends star, the late Matthew Perry — and cult horror classics like Pumpkinhead II and Witchboard II. Fans especially remember her iconic genie role in Miracle Beach, a film that earned her lasting admiration and memories — including the famous genie costume she still treasures.
Today, Dolenz’s creativity shines in her artwork. After years of bringing characters to life on screen, she now channels her talent into visual art, creating compelling characters through watercolor, pen, ink and other mediums. Join the show as they dive into her acting journey, her inspirations and her artistic process.
