Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Nigerian star known as the “Greek Freak,” led the Milwaukee Bucks to a dramatic 127-120 win over the Detroit Pistons in overtime. The 59-point performance was one of his best ever and the highest by any NBA player so far this season.
Antetokounmpo was unstoppable, shooting 21 out of 34 from the field and making 16 of 17 free throws. He also grabbed 14 rebounds and made 7 assists, showcasing his all-round skills. This is his second-highest career point total, just behind the 64 points he scored against Indiana last season.
Despite a tough first half, where the Bucks were down by 18 points, Antetokounmpo led the charge to bring them back into the game. His outstanding effort helped the Bucks extend their winning streak over the Pistons to 10 games and improved their record to 22 wins in their last 23 games against Detroit since the 2018-2019 season.
Brook Lopez added 29 points, while Malik Beasley scored 26 points against his former team. Detroit’s Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 35 points. However, the Pistons were missing two key starters, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jaden Ivey, due to injury, which weakened their lineup.
Milwaukee was also without some of their own players, including Bobby Portis, Ryan Rollins, and Damian Lillard, who are all dealing with injuries or health protocols.
Next, the Pistons will play Toronto on Friday, while the Bucks travel to Charlotte on Saturday.
