Radio host Gemma Atkinson revealed her partner Gorka Marquez was left in tears after learning about a “little lump” she found in her breast.
The radio star was talking to her Hits Radio co-host Mike Toolan when she revealed the details of her health scare.
Luckily, Gemma assured listeners that doctors had found a cyst and she is doing fine.
Gemma Atkinson’s health update
The radio host told Mike she just had her first mammogram, before revealing what led to her health concerns.
The 40-year-old mum-of-two found a “little lump” on her breast about two months ago and was prompted to speak to a doctor to get herself checked over.
She naturally spoke to TV doctor Punam Krishnan, Gorka’s dancing partner on Strictly.
Gemma had met Punam for the first time during rehearsals when she mentioned the lump in her breast. The radio star laughed as she recollected her conversation with the doctor. She told Punam: “Hi, nice to meet you. Please can you look at this?”
No, of course, he wasn’t okay. He cries at everything, Gorka.
Gemma – mum to daughter Mia and son Thiago – had a mammogram and an ultrasound to find out the nature of the lump. “They did a mammogram and an ultrasound, then I had to do that wait in the waiting room.
“But she just called me and literally, her words were: ‘No concerns, no worries, nothing sinister, just a little cyst.’” Gemma let out a sigh of relief as she shared the dreadful experience because she considers herself “lucky”.
Gorka Marquez emotional
Strictly pro Gorka, on the other hand, was extremely terrified of what could have happened to his partner. Mike asked Gemma if the Strictly star was “alright”. She responded laughing: “No, of course, he wasn’t. He cries at everything, Gorka.”
Gemma said she had one hand over her head while they examined her when she heard her partner suppressing sobs from behind.
“I popped my head around and I went: ‘What are you crying for?’ He went: ‘I don’t know! Is she going to be okay?’” she recollected.
Jokes aside, Gemma is doing fine. She told Mike: “But yeah, I’m all good. All is well.”
The radio station later posted the clip on its official Instagram channel with the caption: “Gemma told us about her first mammogram experience last week.” The radio star wrote in the comments: “Always check your boobies!”
According to GB News, she also posted an Instagram story on her personal account thanking the medical professionals who helped her.
“I felt very lucky last week. If ever anyone feels worried, please go get checked. Thank you to the lovely staff at Bolton NHS Hospital,” she wrote.
