Ryan Reynolds is vowing to spend more time with Blake Lively and his kids in 2025 – even if it means turning town mega paychecks, a source exclusively tells Life & Style.
“With 2024 almost over, Ryan is signaling to his Hollywood pals that he and Blake are jumping off the treadmill, retreating to their country home for the holidays and focusing on family for the foreseeable future,” the insider says. “It was a crazy year for both of them and they need time with their kids and time away from New York City and Los Angeles.”
The source points out that both A-listers are “workaholics,” making this “a lot easier said than done.” However, “They’re committed to it precisely because they’re committed to their family and keeping it together,” the insider adds. “They have both been going very hard since the SAG/AFTRA strike ended [in November 2023] and they both had to spring like crazy to get their 2024 movies finished and in shape for release. But now they’ve cleared their schedules and are serious about family coming first.”
Indeed, 2024 was a huge year for both Blake, 37, and Ryan, 48, who starred in the hit movies It Ends With Us and Deadpool & Wolverine, respectively, in addition to working on other business ventures. Now, Ryan only has two projects in the works, with one already in post-production, while Blake will star in A Simple Favor 2, which already completed filming over the summer.
The couple share four children and Ryan previously took a brief “sabbatical” from making movies to be home with his family in 2022. “I’ve done a lot of [acting],” he said in November 2021. “The biggest thing for me … is that I don’t want to miss this time with my kids.”
He added, “I want my kids to have a pretty normal schedule. For many years, when my wife Blake would shoot a film, I would not shoot a film, and I would be with the kids and vice versa. So we would sort of trade off. We never really worked at the same time. But, always, we were away. So the kids were away too. Now that they’re in school, they have a somewhat normal schedule. I think it’s totally important for their development and I really enjoy being a present dad.”
He was true to his word – Ryan’s 2022 movies had all mostly wrapped filming and production before this hiatus, and he only made one small cameo in a 2023 film. Production on Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t begin until May 2023.
Even though the actor is excited to spend more downtime with his family, he has acknowledged in the past how hard it is to parent four young children. “It does get to you,” he admitted on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast in July. “And it’s OK to be like, ‘F–k, I am dying.’ Because that’s gonna happen every other day.”
However, he credits his wife with reminding him, “‘They’re all under our roof right now. The whole family’s under our roof right now. We have them all.’ That is a fleeting thing, not an infinite resource, you know?” He added, “Just say, ‘Think about what you would give in 40 years or 30 years to come back to enjoy this one moment.’”
