Radio Host Says 1 College Team’s Media Is Being ‘Soft’ On Head Coach

Being a head coach at a major college football program can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world, but when you can’t win the big one, fans and the media will turn on you quickly.

One head coach is currently at this stage of the process, and one radio host said he believes the media is being too soft on Ryan Day of Ohio State.

“I find them to be overwhelmingly apologists for Ohio State football, and the reason is because they don’t want to get blackballed,” Bruce Drennan said on his show.

Drennan said he has interviewed plenty of sportscasters and sportswriters who cover Ohio State football, which led him to his conclusion.

“If Ohio State doesn’t make it to the national championship, Ryan Day should be fired. … If he gets to the national championship and doesn’t win the national championship, there is a large percentage of the Ohio State faithful that I would speculate would stay, ‘Still, get rid of him,’” Drennan said.

Ohio State blew its chance at a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff by losing to Michigan, leaving Oregon and Penn State to battle it out for the Big Ten Championship game and the bye that comes with the conference title.

Day has been heavily scrutinized for failing to defeat Michigan, with four consecutive losses to the archrival, and also failing to bring home a national title.

But with Ohio State still bound for the playoff, he has another chance to change his narrative.
