“Real Journalists Never Retire & This Is A Time Of Change”

Jorge Ramos has signed off his last broadcast as co-anchor of Noticiero Univision as the journalist marks the end of an era.

Ramos spent almost 40 years at Univision, now known as TelevisaUnivision, and Friday, December 13th, was the last day he hosted the network’s last primetime newscast.

Following a tribute to Ramos’ career at the network, the TV anchor shared a few departing words to viewers at home.

“This is my last newscast. It’s been more than 38 years in this exact location. I started at 28 years of age, without gray hair and now I am 66 as you can see,” Ramos said. “Not too long ago, I did math, and I hosted about 8,000 newscasts.”

Ramos noted that he came to the U.S. in 1983 and “as an immigrant, this has been the American dream,” adding, “I’ve been able to travel the world several times chasing news and interviewing the newsmakers.”

“I am very thankful for Univision,” he continued. “During more than four decades, this company has been like my second home and I won’t deny it, but this is a very difficult moment for me.”

“But all the tokens of gratitude I’ve received during these last days, confirm that I did every I had to do. Journalist, for me, is a real mission. I don’t know what I am going to do yet, I will let you all know. I am convinced that real journalists never retire and now this is a time of change. I did what I had to do.”

Ramos then turned to co-anchor Ilia Calderón, who will anchor Noticiero Univision alone starting Monday, and said, “Now it’s your turn. I am convinced that I leave this newscast in the best hands and you know that you have all my trust.”

Calderón and Ramos shared a hug as the crew behind the cameras gave the departing anchor a round of applause. Ramos walked over to where the crew stood to share some departing words and thank them for their support.

It was in September 2024 when Ramos announced he was exiting Univision. Earlier this week, Ramos taped the last episode of his weekly public affairs show Al Punto, which is set to air on Sunday.
