Prince William ‘Urging’ Kate to ‘Put Herself First’ After Chemo (Excl)

Prince William couldn’t be prouder of Princess Kate Middleton for returning to her royal duties with a smile on her face. However, he’s also urging her to take things slowly and dial back on her selfless nature instead of putting everyone else first, a source exclusively tells Life & Style.

“Kate’s longing to go out there and make up for lost time and help as many causes and individuals as she possibly can now that she’s got her strength back,” the insider says. “She’s also anxious to pitch in and support King Charles and Queen Camilla [after her chest infection]. It’s absolutely typical that this would happen because Kate knows no other way. William and others joke that she’s programmed to be everyone’s fairy godmother due to her ultra-caring nature.”

The princess, 42, announced her cancer diagnosis in March and revealed that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In September, she confirmed that she had finished her chemo treatments and was in remission. “I am looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can,” Kate said at the time. She made her first major public service appearances in November.

Although Kate has slowly been easing her way back into the workflow, the insider says William, 42, is worried that she’ll push it too far. “He’s putting his foot down and urging Kate to draft a schedule that puts herself first, no excuses,” the source concludes.

In addition to her regular royal duties, Kate is making an effort to help others battling cancer. “She publicly vowed to help others through their journeys, and Kate is following through,” a source told Life & Style in October. “Her work has just begun. She wants to do more. Kate really is determined to turn her difficult experience into something that benefits others.

Kate received her diagnosis after she had a “planned” abdominal surgery in January. She spent two weeks in the hospital and then recovered privately for weeks, leading the public to speculate about what was really wrong. After “[recovering] from major surgery in order to start treatment, [and] also [explaining] to [her] kids to reassure them [she would] be OK,” Kate shared her prognosis. However, she has not specified what type of cancer she has.

In June, she gave an update about her treatment. “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” the mom of three shared. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

She attended Trooping the Colour in June and then made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon in July, two months before completing treatment.

“It’s good news, but there’s still a long way to go,” William admitted in September. To another fan, he added, “She is better. Thank you.”
